This section of ADE states:
2.28 A wall separating a habitable room or kitchen and a refuse chute should have a mass per unit area (including any finishes) of at least 1320kg/m². A wall separating a non-habitable room from a refuse chute should have a mass per unit area (including any finishes) of at least 220kg/m².

1320 kg/m2!!!!! This is a solid concrete wall almost 600mm thick or a concrete block wall 700mm thick. This has been exactly the same figure in ADE (or equivalent) versions going back to 1972. Where does it come from? Why so much? Mass law would suggest an R / STC of 75 dB!!!

You won't believe the places that this has been disseminated and accepted without question (e.g. other international jurisdictions).

Any reasonable explanation accepted.

I guess it's just a typo and should be 1320kg/m3. Equivalent to medium density block work.
